Now that I'm trying to get into comics, I've decided I need a job.

Whoot, Artemis Fowl graphic novel 2 is out! That was my favorite book in the series, and I love the design of the GN (especially Holly's design). Though, they did leave a preeeety big plot point in the first GN (well, small for book 1, important for book 2), so I'm not sure how they'll get around that. But, yeah, I may just order it off Amazon and have it shipped to me. Or wait until I go home for fall break and get it from an indie shop in Denver.
Though, my first thought when I found this out was 'Sweet, more icons for Holly's rp journal!'

So, tomorrow I drive down to NM, and on Wednesday, I move into my dorm. I'm pretty excited. :3
'Course, this means I'm gonna be gone for a few days while I unpack and get used to everything. I probably won't be doing anything artsy for a while, or at least posting it. Though I am bringing my scanner and tablet. So, before I go, here's one more pokemon comic.

I finally bought some new technical pens, because both my cheap Microns and my super expensive really great Staedlers were dying on me. So I got replacements for those, and a few more pens, because I always get carried away at the art supply store. So I used this little comic to experiment a bit. It was inked with a Micron brush pen (which turned out really nice), a small felt-tipped Micron marker, and a chisel-tip Staedler pen. I think the results are actually pretty good.

So I've been rereading Watchmen in anticipation of the movie. The first time I read it was about a year and a half ago. I'd started reading it, and got about... 80% through it, then set it aside for a few months, and eventually went back and finished the last part in one sitting. Now, reading it then, it was great.
Rereading it now that I know what will happen in the end? All I have to say is Alan Moore is the fucking master of foreshadowing. Also, this time, I'm paying attention to all the little background details in the panels. akldfjkd GOD I WISH I WAS THIS GOOD.
And I'm noticing the images and lines from the trailers for the movie, and how they correspond to the panels in the book. Man, this movie is going to rock out loud. Even if it doesn't get everything perfect? It'll still be a lot better then the V for Vendetta movie. (Seriously, the book is about the Thatcher administration in Britain. Why did the movie writers have to make it about the Bush administration in the States? Whyyyyy?)
Also, I've been reading Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens. Normally, I think that Gaiman is a pretentious novelist. His comics, while not as awesome as Moore's, are good. His books... not so much. Overrated, if you ask me. (Secret: I enjoyed the movie version of Stardust and the comic version of Neverwhere - neither of which he had a large part in making - better then the novels) However, something about Pratchet's part in the writing makes the book awesome. It is fucking hilarious. And... I really, really, reeeeaaaally want the two of them to meet up with Christopher Moore (no relation to Alan Moore, mind you) and do a novel about Aziraphale, Crowley, Chase, and Raziel. THAT would be my religious parody novel dream come true.

I started this with the intention it would be Isaac cheesecake. But all cheesecake of her turns out depressing as hell. So it became fluff. Which I inked. I'm getting better at brush pen inking.
So, I'm having a hard time starting Pendragon 9. I want to read it, but it's the second to last book, so in a way, I don't want to read it because I don't want the series to end. But I've found out that the first book is now in comic form. And the preview pages I've seen of it are... perfect. I must go get it. Nerdluuuv.
Trans 9 is... oh man, it's fantastic. I love you, T9. I love you so much. Though, in trying to play Terry accurately, he's becoming very different from everyone else. When he woke up, he didn't try to find out where he was and what was going on, he wanted to find his pants. Instead of telling everyone he's Batman, he's lying through his teeth because he's suspicious that this is a ploy to get all the heroes together and kill them at once.
And you know what? It. Is. So. Much. Fun. I love this game. I love it so much. If I ever pick up another character, it will be No1 from Artemis Fowl 5/6.

Some sketches of the three characters that have joined
And a quick note to those in/interested in the game; I'm going to go ahead and start it sometime this afternoon. Hopefully some activity will encourage others to join.
So, I'm back from my sister's graduation. The ceremony itself was nice - her college is just about twenty miles from Four Corners, and was originally opened for the Navajo res, so its got a huge diversity of students. At the ceremony, half the students had eagle feathers instead of tassels, and one guy had a coyote skin and a blanket instead of the black cap and gown. The food we had at my sister's party was good, and her friends were rather cool.
There was a downside, of course. My sister is manic depressive - a trait she inherited from my mother's side of the family. (I just got acute anxiety) She'd been procrastinating on finding a place to live for the summer, and her lease ended today. She was worried about needing grad school. And, of course, she'd been drinking pretty heavily the past few weeks. There was a lot of shouting, and a lot of crying. I just tried to stay out of that mess. (She has got a place to stay now, though. A woman in town was renting out rooms and my sister got one.)
But more on the plus side, I got some cool stuff down there. Three hats - an indie/punk black one with a white rose painted on the side, a gray and red plaid one, and a tweed paper boy hat (sis gave me the last one). I also got a very nice burgundy corduroy and wool jacket from my sis. And in the local bookstore, I got a copy of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. (Both the novel AND the comic. JOY)
I'm doing pretty good, now. I need to go look for a job, and maybe get DQ ice cream. And start that rp, of course.

I've had a rather nasty case of artist's block lately. As an attempt to rectify that, I've decided to do the 100 drawing meme. You can track my progress here, though I will be posting them on this here journal.
Above is number 1 - Introduction. A business man is using an ATM, which a younger man patiently waits behind him to use the same machine. What does this have to do with introductions? No idea, but it's what popped into my head when I read that word.
In other news, Watchmen Movie character designs revealed
I think I just about wet myself with joy when I saw Rorschach. That looks AMAZING. Hopefully they don't botch this like they did V for Vendetta.

So, I finally got to go use the gift card I got for my birthday. I got some nice watercolor paper, a new pencil sharpener, a new gum eraser, and some nice wood pencils. I still have about twenty dollars on the card, too. I'm considering investing in some copic markers, as another attempt to broaden my scope of mediums. Any suggestions? Is there a better brand, or a cheaper one that's good for beginners? Any nice tutorials around?
I picked up a Korean comic today at a book store. 'A Thousand and One Nights' - basically a re-imagining of the classic story. The art is similar to Japanese Anime, but with some slight differences. The story is rather intriguing so far, and the amount of detail, both cultural and artistic, is stunning.
Oh yeah, I also got some cute dinosaur stickers at the art store. They now decorate my sketchbook and cell phone.

Thaaaaat's right, my friends and I wrote an emo poem on the overhead in a math room. XD
God that rocked so much
Also, some more stuff to show off;

I can now officially say I have joined the ranks of published cartoonists. Long Dark Teatime of the Soul is a simple little comic strip about a goth girl that I wrote for my school's newspaper. And it came out today! Not my best art or best jokes, but it's still kind of fun to do. It's projected that I'll make three more for the rest of the semester.
